"Armenia's newly-appointed Diaspora Minister, Hranoush Hakopyan, Wednesday explained that the newly-created ministry aims to consolidate all forces of the Diaspora and homeland to enhance the development of the entire Armenian nation.

Responding to the appeal of the President of the republic, around a dozen of Diaspora Armenian businessmen (whose number increases gradually) have expressed willingness to invest a sum of more than 700 million Dollars in the economy of Armenia.

And if these promises, at least half of them, become a reality, this will be quite a serious sum for the small economy of Armenia. It may greatly contribute both to the extension of the economic activeness and the opening of new workplaces.

"An IMF staff team visited Yerevan during June 11-17, 2008 to review recent economic developments, and discuss the macroeconomic policies and structural reform priorities of the
new government. The discussions prepared the ground for negotiations of a new IMF supported program in September. The team was pleased with the government’s strong commitment to economic reform, in particular with the focus on strengthening tax policy and tax administration. A dear colleague and friend of mine, Dr. Saira Jhutty, has conducting a research study investigating how to best predict what type of individuals will be able to successfully live and work, overseas. For example, what personal characteristics would a German need, in order to successfully live and work in Japan?

Her study discovered the following:

1) Individuals who come from a country that is similar to the new country, in terms of culture, language, everyday life, and working conditions, are better able to fit-in and function within the new country.

"President Serzh Sargsyan has signed into law a parliament-adopted change in the structure of the government that will include a ministry in charge of Armenia’s relations with its worldwide Diaspora....

The main reason for the establishment of the new ministry, according to opposition Heritage faction secretary Stepan Safaryan, is “the crisis created in the country, which had a serious impact on Diaspora confidence and the restoration of that confidence requires serious work.”
